Like a lot of you I found myself wondering
where to start. I had produced for almost 10 years before I decided it
was time to make some money. I had great beats, so that wasn't the
problem. So what was it? I guess in all honesty I was a little
overwhelmed with where to start. After countless hours, days and nights
of web surfing, reading and research I finally started to get a clue
about what to start doing. With this article I hope to spare you the
boring research and compile everything I've learned into easy-to-read
sections. After reading this I am confident you'll be on your way to
building your brand!
Exposure
First
and foremost it is impossible to sell anything online if no one can find
you. Exposure on multiple websites is key to being a successful
producer online. In the following sections of this article I am going to
discuss in-depth the 4 major websites you need to be on. All of these
websites offer free and paid memberships. If money is tight than start
with the free profiles until you build up enough capital to invest in
the exclusive profile options. After discussing these sites I will also
talk about the importance of having your own website.
Rocbattle.com
Out of all the other websites to sell on Rocbattle.com has been my favorite. The most unique thing about Rocbattle
is that producers can battle each other with their beats. What that
means for you is extra exposure. On top of that they give all their
producers Free advertising points for their activity on Rocbattle
such as voting and participating in battles. They have 3 different
profile options to choose from, including a free membership option. One
other unique thing that Rocbattle offers is a beat request
service to their artists. An artist can request a specific type and
genre of beat and then you are notified via email that a new beat
request has been submitted. Both the battle and beat request service are
unique Rocbattle and I have not found any other site that does that.
Myflashstore.net
This site is wonderful as well. Unique to myflashstore.net
is a customizable flash player that you can sell your beats on. This
player can be uploaded on all kinds of sites including Facebook. This
gives you the ability to sell your beats pretty much anywhere online.
This is also one of the most common ways to sell your beats through soundclick.com which I will discuss further in the next section. Like Rocbattle, myflashstore.net
has 3 profile options including a free membership. This means that you
can start selling your beats today without investing any money!
Soundclick.com
Soundclick.com
is different from the other sites because it is an artist community.
They have millions of independent artists and producers actively
engaging on their website. This can mean a great deal of exposure and
networking for you. They have a chart system and if you can get your
beats on the charts you will have a stream of traffic to your profile.
They have to profile options, one is free. Once you have signed up for
an upgraded VIP account you can install the myflashplayer.net beat player in your Soundclick.com profile.
Mybeatproducer.com
Recently I came across another great site to sell your beats on called mybeatproducer.com.
They are a growing community with far less producers to compete
against. They review all the beats after you uploaded them and give the
beats they like free positioning on their front-page and top beat
charts. This can also be really great exposure for you. All producer
accounts on this website are free and they allow you upload up to 50
beats in your profile. No other site lets you upload that many beats for
Free. Take advantage of it, any free resource is great.
Owning your own website
I
really want you to understand that this is very important. One of the
biggest reasons is the fact that there is so much competition on these
other websites. There are many options for getting your own website,
however I recommend beatwebsites.com because they are websites
tailored to your market, beats. They offer different options and website
packages so choose the one that most suits your goals and needs. Like I
said before, start small and save the money you make from your sales on
these other sites. Once you've built up enough money open your own site
and set up shop!
