Pharrell Williams is the newest addition to be a judge on The Voice.
Before I get into some of his admirable traits as a judge we should talk about the noteworthy achievements this singer/songwriter/musician and record producer has accomplished.
Pharrell and friend Chad Hugo under the name of The Neptunes produce soul, hip-hop and R&B music. In 2002 the Neptunes were named Producers of the Year at the Billboard Music Awards. They produced several hit singles for many top artists such as Jay-Z with two songs on his The Black Album, and also worked with the rap group Clipse on their second album Health Hath No Fury.
N.E.R.D. is a band formed by Pharrell Williams, Chad Hugo and a childhood friend Shae Haley. They are an alt- rock/hip-hop and funk band. Pharrell has produced songs with Snoop Dog, Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Gwen Stefani, Beyoncé, and Jennifer Lopez.
In terms of the prestigious Grammy awards he received
in 2003 Pharrell won Best Pop Vocal Album as a producer for "Justified,"
in 2004 he won Producer of the Year with The Neptunes,
in 2007 Best Rap Song for "Money Maker,"
in 2013 Producer of the Year and Album of the Year for "Random Access Memories," and in 2014 Record of the Year for "Get Lucky."
And finally if that was not enough in 2010 he composed the sound track for the movie Despicable Me recorded with the Hollywood Studio Symphony. He also composed and produced the music for the 84th Academy Awards along with composer Hans Zimmer.
Two of my favorite Pharrell Williams songs are "Happy" from Despicable Me 2 and "Here" from The Amazing Spiderman.
The things that make Pharrell an outstanding judge are numerous.
· He has outstanding credentials as we have already talked about.
· He is passionate about his beliefs in a contestant that he likes. I recall on a couple of occasions when he was psyched about a contestant's singing and he would stand straight up during the performance. His body language was showing the singer that he was passionate about having that contestant on his team.
· The last and most important thing is his character and class when he gives his comments to a singer. He speaks calmly and shows he has a deep understanding of music. He simply just delivers it with conviction and positive reasons why the singer should choose him as his coach.
As a writer he makes my job easy. His admirable traits as a singer/songwriter and judge make me passionate about this artist's character and class.
