music: How Do I Choose the Type, Brand and Quality of Acoustic Steel String Guitar?

However, not to worry anymore as this guide will come in handy when shopping for an acoustic steel string guitar for beginners. Here is what you should look out for:
1. Always bear in mind that material of the guitar determines the sound that you will get.
There are many types of guitars out there that are made of various materials and therefore the sound produced varies from one material to the next and that's why different guitars are employed
in different genres of music. The most commonly used guitar materials include silk and steel, phosphor bronze and bronze alone, other materials are available but these are the commonest.
Bronze is employed in making guitar strings. It's usually known in music circles as 80/20 bronze for the fact that these strings are made up of 80% copper and the rest 20% is zinc. It's worth noting that these strings can be employed in all styles of play. In addition the strings produce a very bright output that quickly fades away following a session of playing. For these reasons bronze strings are the most commonly employed types of strings in guitars.
The other types of strings are the phosphor bronze strings. They are a component of both bronze and phosphor like their bronze counterparts they can be used for all styles of play. However in contrast to the sound produced by the bronze strings, their sound lasts a bit longer.
If you need a soft and mellow sound then you should look out for the silk and steel strings. In addition less tension is produced during playing. They are also found in lighter gauges which make them the perfect match for vintage guitars. Unlike their other counterparts, these strings are less durable and quieter.
2. Look out for the gauge of the strings!
The gauge can be described as the thickness of the guitar strings. Higher gauges produce more sound compared to the lighter gauges. Their sounds also last longer and have a warmer sound. However they are harder to play because more force is required to play. Therefore beginners should opt for the ones with light gauges and upgrade gradually.
3. The price factor
Price is an important factor when shopping for an acoustic guitar but as a rule of thumb you should ensure you use the strings according to the quality of the guitar.
4. The guitar brand
The brands to look out for include the martin, Ernie ball and the elixir.
If you are unsure, always approach the salesperson for recommendations of acoustic guitars. And most importantly, make sure that you are comfortable playing with the guitar sitting and standing.
