Alive N Kickin' (originally known as Alive and Kicking) recorded
one of my all-time favorite songs in the 70s - "Tighter and Tighter."
Over 40 years later I still love this song!
You could call the group a "one-hit wonder." But that would be a mistake. Sure, they only had one single that sold over six million copies. The B-sides of their singles never went anywhere, and they only released one album.
And nobody ever really heard from them again - on the radio.
No, they aren't big recording artists and they don't tour anymore with the big artists like they did in the 1970s
...
"During the 70's, the group toured with some of the biggest names of that era, including Chicago, The Five Stairsteps, Frank Zappa, Seals and Crofts, Mott The Hoople, and Rare Earth. The band appeared on such national television shows as "Dick Clark's American Bandstand" and the "Mike Douglas Show". The band has played such major venues as Madison Square Garden, the Baltimore Civic Center, and the Steel Pier, in Atlantic City."
There are many artists from the last few decades who simply faded away after more or less bombing as a big name band, after recording one or two hit singles. Some of them stay in the industry as record producers but others, like Alive N Kickin', refused to give up doing what they love!
What this awesome group of professionals did was keep on doing what they love - playing music and providing top-notch entertainment locally!
Alive N Kickin' has now emerged as one of the premier night club and wedding bands in the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut tri-state area."
As the old saying goes, "Do what you love and the money will follow." Alive N Kickin' is a perfect inspiration of doing just that. No, the "big money" didn't happen by being a famous rock band. But it did happen by using their talents and love of music and singing to become a sought-after live band for weddings and other occasions.
You can see it in their faces when they perform that they absolutely love what they do! They love entertaining - they love making people happy - and in turn, they can command a lucrative fee for their services.
I think we can all learn from this. If you don't "make it big" doing what you love, scale down and reinvent yourself. Then use your experiences from the limelight you once had to promote your services on a smaller scale.
