Easy Guitar Lesson-How to Play a Judas Priest Intro

Judas Priest is a British heavy metal band that was formed in Birmingham, England, back in 1969. The band became known for sizzling twin guitars, a strong operatic vocal style, and for introducing the leather and studs look into heavy metal. The band is widely regarded as one of the most original heavy metal bands ever. Many musical artists, especially metal and hard rock ones, cite them as a major influence. Judas Priest has sold over 50 million albums worldwide. They were ranked the second greatest metal band of all time by MTV. This easy guitar lesson will have you playing one of their famous intros.
About the song
The Judas Priest song "Breaking The Law" was released as a single from the British Steel album in 1980. This song has a simple main riff, and chorus. Nevertheless, it was one of Judas Priest's big breakthrough songs. It reached number 12 on the British Charts, and is now considered one of the greatest Hard Rock/Heavy Metal songs ever recorded
.
It tells a story of someone who gets sick and tired of his ordinary, boring life. As a result, he decides to take a chance, and start breaking the law. The video has become a cult classic, and is played on VH1's Metal Mania show. The song was ranked # 40 on VH1's Greatest Metal songs list. It has been used in TV commercials, movies, The Simpsons, and Beavis and Butthead. Now, you will be able to play this famous intro by following my easy guitar lesson.
How to play the intro
The "Breaking The Law" intro consists of 4 measures. It is written in tablature first, and then wrote out for those who do not read tabs. The first two measures are played over an Am chord. The third measure is played over an F chord. The last measure is played over a G chord. Repeat the pattern twice. It is important to note, the sixth string is the thickest, and lowest sounding string.

Listen to the original
I recommend listening to the original Judas Priest recording. This will help you get the timing of the intro. Anytime you work on a song, it is important to listen to a certain segment first, and then practice that part of the song. You can tune your guitar to this song by matching the first note of the intro to the open fifth string of your guitar.
Gary E Kerkow has been playing guitar for several decades. This includes teaching guitar, and playing in successful bands that toured the Twin Cities area. Kerkow is also an accomplished piano player.
